Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, manage and oversee all aspects of transportation for Precon’s multiple sites with day-to-day control of the Woolpit yard, goods in and production teams.


Responsibilities:

Staff Management:

  • Effectively manage all staff within the transport department and support Warehouse/Yard operations.
  • Conduct regular staff performance reviews alongside HR.
  • Manage and provide training and guidance to staff to enhance their skills and performance.
  • Managing ongoing staff development, changes, additions to the transport department and yard teams as the company expands to meet changing demands.
  • Implement best practices for warehouse organization and efficiencies.
  • Authorising holidays and ensuring departments are always sufficiently covered.
  • Coordinate with all departments to ensure seamless logistics operations.

Daily Routing:

  • Oversee all transport operations for all sites and any new depots as the company expands, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of goods.
  • Manage and organise daily vehicle routing.
  • Track orders using vehicle trackers and ensure regular contact with drivers is maintained.
  • Supervise warehouse and yard operations at the Head Office in Woolpit.
  • Ensure drivers are returning and correct PODs/EPOD’s on time, signed, dated, and printed, collection notes returned to Transport and then passed to Accounts.
  • Work closely with sales department to ensure Precon meets the needs of our customers with timely delivery of orders, plus accommodating any site restrictions.  Update the sales department on eta’s.

Vehicle maintenance and compliance:

  • Manage and oversee maintenance requirements to ensure Precon is compliant with all the relevant schemes and delivery regulations i.e., FORS/CLOKS.
  • Manage and ensure maintenance and repair needs for all Precon vehicles trucks, vans, and forklifts.
  • Ensure compliance with transportation regulations and safety standards.

Department Performance:

  • Monitor invoices received from various transport companies.
  • Monitor and report to Directors regarding ongoing transport costs to ensure department is not exceeding budget, e.g., reviewing rates of couriers, exploring cost saving shipping options available.  
  • Analyse logistics performance metrics and identify areas for improvement.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to streamline processes and reduce costs.
  • Manage relationships with 3rd party couriers and 3PL partners.
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize transportation processes and reduce costs.
  • Anticipate and address any logistical challenges or issues proactively with Operations team.

Required Skills & Experience:

Experience

  • Multi drop Transport management experience.
  • Warehousing \ Operational experience
  • Strong leadership
  • Good communication skills
  • Willing to travel to other depots when required

Desired Skills (but not essential)

  • A basic understanding of the construction industry
  • CPC preferred (but not essential)
